TO ACHIEVE OBJECTIVE
Editor/author - George April
Abigail is the current U/16 South African cross country champion, and her goal is to make the U/17 title hers, was overthrown by the COVID 19 (Coronavirus).
Abigail Fortuin (17), a pupil of Riebeeck Valley Special School, surprised in the 2019 season when she won a second SA title in Mpumalanga. It was the u/16 title after she also won the u/15 title the previous year in Pretoria. She became a two time champion without a coach or a manager.
The champion athlete is under the management of West Coast Sports Solutions (WCSS) from January 2020. But of course, no athlete has reached the highest level of sports without a good coach.
TEAMWORK ESSENTIAL
As her manager, we decided to ask Joggie Maarman, founder and coach of Hopefield Athletics Club to coach Abigail. To make it a bit easier for him, our management ask that Cornelius, father of Abigail being the assistant coach.
Why get her father involved?
Still, as a manager of the athlete, I know that I couldn't have made a better decision. Now it is sitting back and waiting for everything to return to normal, with the current virus crisis having the whole world in lockdown
He was a very good athlete himself, and he and Joggie have been instrumental in Abigail's sport from day one since she's under WCSS management... Teamwork is really important between the coaching team and the athlete.
